Indonesia: Implementation of Halal Product Assurance

On 15 July 2024, BPJPH announced the opening of Foreign Halal Certification Registration channel on the Halal Information System (Sihalal). According to Article 47 of the Halal Product Assurance Law, foreign halal products that are imported do not need to apply for new certifcates if they already possess a halal certificate issued by Overseas Halal Institution that have a mutual recognition agreement with BPJPH. That said, the halal certificate must be registered with BPJPH before the product can be distributed in Indonesia. As for new application or extension to the foreign halal certificate, importers or representatives in Indonesia must submit to writing to BPJPH, using the Sihalal system.
